Warp

I'm not sure what to think.

The kids came home today saying that grandma is no longer taking her epilepsy medication and is only eating a fridge full of Jell-O, and that they witnessed her having a seizure (I'm not sure if it was this weekend or last weekend.)  It scared them.

Allow me to be speculative...

Two things then:  Did he quit his job to take care of his mom?  If so, why was that the option when Jamie is supposedly a "healthcare worker" and "worked in convalescent homes?"  Not that I believe anything that the Succubus has to say about where she's been, but David isn't exactly a nurturer.

Furthermore, nurturing an adult while not nurturing your children?

More dysfunction in the already dysfunctional environment?

The other thing is this:  What the hell are the kids witnessing over there?  As much as death and illness are a part of life, how traumatizing will it be for them to continue to see the demise of their grandmother?  Speculating of course that she's not well and is indeed on her way out.

But why are the kids even privy to what's going on with this woman's information?  Shit, when my dad had cancer I was told he'd eaten a furry pork chop.

David imitates what he grew up seeing.  Sick mom, dad who works all the time.  I'm fairly healthy, but I was kept off of bank accounts and off of car registrations and out of work therefore being kept "helpless."  And the health of his new girlfriend is sub par.  More of the reenactment of the only type of family life that he knows.

Now mom is sick, let's drop everything.

Or, you know, something else.  This is all speculation based off of my kids telling me they're freaked out that gramma's having seizures and can't take her medicine.

If that's not going to fucking warp them...

  1. It's hard. If his mom is really sick and they saw her have a seizure, then he is going to have to kind of explain things to them...even if it is kind of traumatizing.

My son is constantly around my grandma, and she is senile and can't walk well and is old and essentially next to dying. He knows all of this. I can't keep it from him because he is around it and he knows something is up.

There is a fine line when it comes to telling kids about medical issues or life issues in general. I think, in my opinion, it is best to be honest and straightforward. I mean, wouldn't you have wanted to know the truth about your dad?

  2. no, because my mind wasn't able to handle those things. as dysfunctional as my adults were, they did the right thing. i didnt know anything about his medication or that he was in radiation treatment or that he was dying. though ty might be old enough to understand, wade is not, and is already having many psychological fallbacks from this divorce. throwing seizing dying grandma in their face isn't exactly the most stable thing david could be doing for them. what he really needs is his own house or apartment away from this situation. but he's never going to be capable of anything like that at the rate he's going.

  3. Ah, I feel you. You're right, all kids are different and, the reality of it is, we're supposed to protect them as children. I guess the only good think about David not having his own place is that he isn't living with whats-her-face, right?

  4. as i generally don't give a fuck what he does with his life, as the courts have tentatively decided that jamie is in the clear to be around the children (but have noted my concerns) i really don't care if he lives with her or not. as long as the children are not being harmed or damaged in any way, or subjected to any more of her emotional abuse, he's An Adult.

actually, i don't care if he's living in a cardboard box eating nothing but his own shit, BUT he will be responsible for his children. that is the bottom line for me. he could be on his deathbed smoking through his neckhole. part of his disability will be routed to his children.

i attempted to set up a life insurance policy on him but he dodged everything. he is the type of person that does not realize that his children still require care even in the event of his timely death. the judge will make it a requirement though, from what i understand.

that's all from a support standpoint. as far as a where he lives and what the kids are around, that's where we're seeing some shady ass shit that needs to be dealt with promptly.
